Butterfly on Ixora blooms, Phitsanulok, Thailand
The butterfly on the ixora blooms up top was left over after a different post about butterflies, but I figured it fit in here - so why waste it?
The nest hanging in the tree at Phanom Rung historical park is a hornet's nest, as close as I can tell from an image search on the internet - but I suppose it could be a wasp of some sort, too. Any ideas? I didn't see any movement around it and decided I preferred it that way so I didn't disturb it.

The fly below came out with surprising detail, so I've included it, too.
A Thai friend told me this creature above was a wasp, but I can't vouch for that myself. We were heading to the beach for a walk one morning and this was at the curb as we were crossing Beach Road.
My humble snapshot camera isn't always the best for this sort of macro photography, but I keep trying. I get maybe one out of five to come out as I want.

Bao-Bao, I can cope with all manner of creepy crawlies but I am phobic about flys. I just want to be sick.
Auckland in the Summer especially at this time of year is rife with them. When I got home yesterday my flat mate had all the doors and windows open plus the huge balcony doors and there were flys aplenty as he was gardening. For some reason as soon as one starts to garden or cook they arrive in droves.
Your photo of the fly sent me from the room gagging. LOL.

Yes, the black and orange creature is a wasp. The "wasp waist" is a dead giveaway :)
The nest is probably a wasp nest. I've seen a few bee nests in Thailand and there usually made of sheets of honeycomb in parallel not a single sheet. Hornets nests are usually in the shape of a papery ball.
The wild insects of Thailand are different from ours in the States so thats just an educated guess.
KenC - thank you for that! I'm not as clever with "Googling" as some are and was hoping someone who knew more about it would comment.
