Thai Smiles, Part 10: More Random Smiles

Not a enough time to write a proper post today, so I'm going to share another few pictures from the on-going Thai Smiles series. The man above was selling shirts on a street corner in Udonthani. I admired both his looks and his beautiful hair.

This couple was waiting for a bus, and much like it is in the West the young man was pleased to strike a proud "she's with me" pose with his girlfriend.

The image quality isn't very good here, but these two workers at an outdoor eatery in Nong Nooch Gardens near Pattaya were happy doing what they do.

The final image (below) is another of my favorites. Such an impish smile, and such a pleasant young man.

Thanks, neil - it's a labor of love. Sharing the pictures and telling the stories keep it fresh in my aging brain, and that's the payoff for me.

The positive comments are extra icing and always appreciated, though.

People watching/ smiles/ and sleeping topics are my top three. Conversations with the gogo boys too.

I like the 'smile', and 'sleep' photos. Thais always seem to be 'bundled up'. Maybe it's just for the camera that they get close to each other.. put 'personal space' doesn't seem to be the requirement there, as it is here.

The "smile" photos are the easiest - I have pretty good luck getting people to stop and smile. The "sleeping" photos are far more infrequent, and it often seems a little invasive to take them so many times I just don't, unless it's an unusual spot.

Re: "personal space": my theory is it's part cultural and part growing up in close proximity (i.e. the traditional single room home) - but that's just a theory.
